White Fang
Rough Draft Essay

Wildernesses vs. civilization; which would you prefer? Also, nurture vs. nature which will come out on top? In the book White Fang, by Jack London it is all of those things! White Fang, the main character of the book, has come on a long and tiring journey. Some of the places where White Fang lived he was abused and other places loved, and given another chance. Some of his homes were similar, yet not at all the same, though out this essay I will tell you about the different places White Fang has lived, and how I think they have affected him in his life.
On Page 55 baby White Fang was born. Here is how we first meet our little gray dude as a first called him before he got a name, “Nevertheless, he made out, sheltering between her legs against the length of her body, five strange little bundles of life, very feeble, very helpless, making tiny whimpering noises, with eyes that did not open to the light.”, and there it was, White Fangs first home with his mom. In fact I think that White Fang’s mom had a very good impact on him, she taught him how to fight, how to hunt, and to be nice to humans. She was a very good role model who has saved his life a lot of times.
On page 86 little White Fang meets his new masters, or as he calls them his gods, they were the Indians. White Fangs god was named “Gray Beaver”. When White Fang had first ran into the Indians he was scared, terrified in fact, one of the men tried to pet him, so as any wild animal would do, he bit him. Next what happened was very mean he picked up White Fang and started to hit him. White Fang learned his lesson that day not to bite humans. White Fang’s mother new better to go messing with humans so she stayed out of it. Gray Beaver decided to keep White Fang and his Mother, and it turns out that White Fang’s Mother used to belong to Gray Beavers now dead brother; they had lost her 2 years ago.
They went back to the tribe and White Fang soon discovered the puppy pack with its head leader Lip-lip. Of course it was like having fresh meat and they turned on White Fang. White Fang grew stronger and during a fanon when he had left the tribe he ran into Lip-lip and bit his mane vain in his neck and killed him in no time flat. White Fang’s Mother was given to another tribe because Gray Beaver was in debt with one of the other tribe members. White Fang had a hard time letting his Mother go but had to because as he was trying to get to his mother he bit Gray Beavers foot because Gray Beaver had kicked him aside, White Fang probably would have wished that he did not do but had no time to regret it because he got a bad beating after that.
On Page 141 it says “It was in the summer that White Fang arrived at Fort Yukon.” Ok so Gray Beaver came to Fort Yukon to sell furs and make some money. White Fang had learned how to kill and was killing the white men’s dogs as they came off of the seam boat. What White Fang would do is hurt the dog enough to the point where he could not defend its self, then he would let the rest of the tribe pack come in for the kill and let them get punished for killing the other dog, White Fang was very smart in that way. There was a strange oddly shaped man that got much enjoyment from watching White Fang. The man’s name was Beauty Smith, the reason why the called him that was because of the opposite of his name he was ugly. Beauty Smith made a offer to Gray Beaver to buy White Fang and he said that he was not for sale. I forget what happened next but I think that Beauty Smith got Gray Beaver some alcohol (I think it was whisky) and he liked it so he used all of his fur money to buy alcohol and he got drunk and said yes for Beauty Smith to buy White Fang. That’s where White Fangs new home started and what a horrible home it was.
